Tucked into the natural contours of the landscape, Tinga Spa emerges as a tranquil sanctuary of stillness and introspection. Located within a lush bush setting, the spa reflects Black Sable’s philosophy of architecture as a gentle, guiding force—one that draws guests into deep connection with nature and self.

The Vision

Designed to blend seamlessly into the surrounding landscape, Tinga Spa is more than a retreat—it is a journey inward. The architecture guides guests through subtle spatial transitions, shifting their focus away from the outside world and into a space of reflection, restoration, and connection with nature.

Upon arrival, the spa emerges from the sloping terrain, its true scale intentionally concealed, reinforcing a feeling of discovery. Organic, curving walls weave through existing Jackalberry trees, gradually enclosing guests in a cocoon of tranquillity.

The Design

A central spine leads into the reception area, where a high, curved thatch ceiling introduces openness and volume. The treatment rooms and service areas, in contrast, feature lowered ceilings, creating an atmosphere of comfort and intimacy.

Throughout the spa, strategic window placements frame shifting views of the bush, allowing natural light to animate the space. Dark, natural finishes and soft textures mirror the landscape’s earthy tones, enhancing the sense of calm and grounding.

Each treatment room opens onto the wilderness, with large sliding doors that bring in the sounds, scents, and serenity of nature, making the surrounding landscape an essential part of the spa experience.

Adjacent to the spa, a timber-slatted pergola shades the existing outdoor pool, creating a striking contrast between its light, airy structure and the monolithic curved walls of the spa. The entrance sits precisely between these two worlds—open and enclosed, light and shadow—marking the transition into a deeply immersive wellness space.

Ecological Sustainability

Tinga Spa’s architecture responds to its environment, prioritizing sustainable materials and passive design strategies to minimize its footprint. By working with the landscape rather than against it, the design ensures that nature remains the focal point of the guest experience.
